TL;DR
Power Electronics Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and integrating high-voltage power electronics for the ES-30 hybrid-electric aircraft with an accent on inverters, DC/DC converters, propulsion integration, and certification. Focus on leading system-level testing, modeling electrical systems in a high-fidelity Digital Twin, selecting topologies, and delivering certifiable hybrid propulsion subsystems.

Location: Los Angeles, CA, United States

Salary: $124,000–$216,000 USD per year

Company

hirify.global develops the ES-30, a 30-passenger regional hybrid-electric airplane with a 200 km electric zero-emission range and a 400 km extended hybrid range.

What you will do

  • Own the design, fabrication, commissioning, integration, and certification of the hybrid propulsion system.
  • Integrate inverters, motors, high-voltage cables, batteries, and turbomachinery into a certifiable Electric Propulsion Unit.
  • Lead system-level testing, including motor and propeller test stands, instrumentation, controls, and mechanical assembly.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to deliver integrated and certifiable subsystems.
  • Model electrical and power electronics systems in a high-fidelity Digital Twin to optimize hybrid mission profiles.
  • Perform power electronics topology selection and trade studies.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of professional experience with power electronics components.
  • Strong experience designing 800V+ high-voltage power electronics, including AC/DC inverters and DC/DC converters.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage filter design, grounding analysis, protective-device coordination, and digital power conversion.
  • Hands-on experience integrating propulsion or powertrain test stands, including instrumentation, controls, and mechanical assembly.
  • Experience with Altium, Cadence or similar tools, SPICE circuit analysis, gate-driver design, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers.
  • Experience with C/C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or PLECS, plus knowledge of avionics communications, ARINC, CAN, Ethernet, microcontrollers, multicore processors, and firmware development.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of EASA CS-23/25 or FAA FAR Part 23/25 certification requirements.
  • Experience with DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160, hardware design, and airworthiness.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC physics, specifications, design practices, and mitigation strategies.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink auto-code generation.
  • Leadership experience in cross-functional engineering teams.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work within a propulsion team developing a hybrid-electric regional aircraft.
  • Collaborate across mechanical, thermal, electrical, flight-control, and supplier teams.
  • Contribute to the development of an aircraft targeted for type certification by the end of the decade.
