Principal Engineer - Vacuum Coating Equipment Design (PVD/CVD)

Location: Onsite at the Shenzhen Futian 1 Office, with equipment installation, startup, and engineering activities in Shenzhen and Penang

What you will do

• Lead mechanical design of vacuum chambers, pumping systems, target assemblies, wafer and disk handling mechanisms, and thermal management modules using Creo/Pro-E.
• Perform structural, thermal, vacuum stress, and CFD simulations in Ansys to optimize chamber performance, pumping efficiency, vacuum integrity, and coating uniformity.
• Drive prototype development through fabrication, supplier assembly, system integration, equipment qualification, production commissioning, and factory deployment.
• Investigate and resolve vacuum leaks, thermal deformation, motion reliability, interference, and cable-routing issues.
• Develop DOE validation plans, engineering reports, 8D corrective actions, engineering change documentation, BOMs, assembly procedures, maintenance manuals, and localization packages.
• Collaborate with process, PLC/automation, manufacturing, and supplier teams to deliver integrated mechanical and electrical solutions.

Requirements

• Master's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Vacuum Engineering, Precision Manufacturing, or a related discipline.
• 5–10 years of mechanical design experience with PVD/CVD vacuum coating equipment or other high-vacuum precision equipment.
• Proven experience designing complete vacuum chambers and equipment.
• Expertise in Creo/Pro-E and proficiency in Ansys for structural, thermal, and fluid simulations.
• Strong knowledge of turbomolecular pumps, high-vacuum chamber design, sealing technology, vacuum piping, precision machining, welding, and cleanroom-compatible equipment design.
• Professional English communication skills are required for technical documentation, engineering meetings, and collaboration with global suppliers and manufacturing teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with HDD carbon overcoat sputtering equipment.
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, and engineering change management.
