Senior Member of Technical Staff: Navigation, Localization & Structured Perception (Robotics)

What you will do

• Design and implement localization and mapping systems, including state estimation, SLAM, and sensor fusion.
• Build path and motion planning for mobile robots operating in dynamic, cluttered, human-occupied industrial environments.
• Develop structured perception using maps, fixtures, landmarks, and facility layouts.
• Fuse camera, depth sensor, LiDAR, IMU, and odometry data into reliable pose and environment estimates.
• Combine classical geometric and model-based methods with learned perception in collaboration with AI, controls, and hardware teams.
• Debug deployed robots, characterize field performance, calibrate sensors, and improve robustness against edge cases.

Requirements

• Proven experience building localization, SLAM, or navigation systems for real-world mobile robots.
• Strong knowledge of probabilistic state estimation, filtering, optimization, and multi-sensor fusion.
• Strong C++ and Python skills for performant, reliable robotics software.
• Deep knowledge of 3D geometry, coordinate frames, transforms, and the mathematics behind SLAM and estimation.
• Hands-on experience with cameras, depth sensors, LiDAR, sensor calibration, and mobile-platform path and motion planning.
• Track record of taking perception or navigation systems from design through deployment and field validation.

Nice to have

• Experience combining classical methods with learned perception and collaborating with ML teams.
• Experience with humanoid, legged, or other high-DOF mobile platforms.
• Experience in factory, warehouse, or other structured industrial environments.
• Knowledge of sensor intrinsics and extrinsics, multi-sensor alignment, and temporal synchronization.
• Exposure to real-time and safety-conscious system design.
