Focus on designing non-GPS localization approaches, integrating autonomy systems, and solving navigation challenges in natural lunar terrain.

Location: Los Angeles - Hawthorne, United States. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Salary: $155,000–$200,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

  • Design localization approaches for rover navigation on the Moon.
  • Develop software that estimates rover position from IMU, camera, LIDAR, odometry, star tracker, sun sensor, and terrain-matching data.
  • Test and evaluate localization performance on rover prototypes at a lunar analog test site.
  • Run localization tests in Gazebo-based simulations using NASA lunar terrain data.
  • Integrate localization with path planning, hazard avoidance, and other autonomy systems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of programming experience in Python and/or C/C++.
  • Experience developing software to control real robots.
  • Experience with non-GPS localization techniques such as INS, EKF, factor graphs, or SLAM.
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or significant professional coding experience demonstrating equivalent ability.
  • Exceptional engineering ability and outstanding communication skills.
  • Must satisfy U.S. Government export-control eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience with outdoor robots, autonomous vehicles, or robots operating in natural terrain.
  • Experience with LIDAR localization, visual odometry, VSLAM, or terrain matching.
  • Experience with ROS/ROS2 and robot simulators such as Gazebo or MuJoCo.
  • Experience developing aerospace or production software.
