TL;DR
Robotics Perception Engineer (LiDAR/Cameras/ROS): Designing and deploying perception pipelines for autonomous mobile robots operating in live freight facilities with an accent on object detection, localization, mapping, sensor calibration, and multi-modal fusion. Focus on processing point clouds, debugging perception failures on physical robots, and building reliable software for production deployment.

Location: Remote within the United States, with periodic travel to the Atlanta facility for hardware integration and testing.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, and maintain perception pipelines for autonomous mobile robots, including detection, segmentation, localization, and mapping.
  • Integrate and calibrate LiDAR, depth cameras, IMUs, and other sensors on production robot platforms.
  • Develop point-cloud processing, filtering, and sensor-fusion systems for reliable environment understanding.
  • Create datasets for perception model training, validation, and regression testing.
  • Collaborate with navigation, controls, and hardware teams to meet downstream requirements.
  • Debug perception failures on deployed robots using logs, recorded sensor data, and on-site investigation, while contributing to CI/CD for testing and deployment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience building perception systems for physical robots at a robotics or autonomous vehicle company.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and Python.
  • Deep experience with LiDAR processing, including point-cloud filtering, clustering, registration, and SLAM.
  • Hands-on experience with camera-based perception, sensor calibration, and ROS or ROS 2 in production.
  • Familiarity with PyTorch or TensorFlow and a track record of deploying perception software to real robots in unstructured or semi-structured environments.
  • Strong debugging, hardware, and communication skills, with the ability to work in a small, fast-moving team.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Experience with AWS IoT, Greengrass, or similar edge-cloud architectures.
  • Experience in logistics, warehousing, or freight environments.
  • Experience with Gazebo or other physics simulation for sensor modeling.
