Global Mapping & SLAM Engineer (Robotics): Designing and deploying georeferenced dynamic mapping systems for autonomous heavy machinery in continuously evolving construction environments with an accent on multi-sensor fusion, localization, and production-quality robotics software. Focus on building scalable SLAM pipelines, maintaining semantic site maps, benchmarking map and localization quality, and solving mapping challenges in degraded or intermittent GNSS conditions.

What you will do
- Design and deploy large-scale georeferenced mapping systems for autonomous heavy machinery operating on continuously changing construction sites.
- Build global dynamic mapping pipelines that maintain accurate, current, and semantically meaningful representations of evolving terrain and machine activity.
- Develop multi-sensor fusion and SLAM algorithms for mapping, localization, state estimation, and calibration in challenging outdoor environments.
- Fuse GNSS, LiDAR, cameras, IMUs, and fleet-level data to support autonomy, remote operation, site understanding, and long-term map maintenance.
- Define metrics, validation methods, datasets, field-testing procedures, and benchmarking frameworks for map quality, localization accuracy, robustness, and runtime performance.
- Deliver production-quality implementations and documentation while collaborating across robotics, software, hardware, operations, and product teams.
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geomatics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience developing mapping, SLAM, localization, or state estimation systems for real-world robotic platforms.
- Strong understanding of coordinate frames, calibration, sensor synchronization, uncertainty modeling, and real-time robotics systems.
- Experience with LiDAR-inertial odometry, pose graph optimization, loop closure, scan matching, map alignment, and georeferencing.
- Production-quality C++ and/or Python development in a Linux environment.
- Proficiency in English is required for communication and collaboration.
Nice to have
- Experience with global, lifelong, multi-session, or semantic mapping and dynamic scene understanding.
- Experience with factor-graph optimization frameworks, mapping backends, geospatial data formats, or large-scale map infrastructure.
- Experience deploying perception, mapping, or autonomy systems on construction, mining, agricultural, autonomous, or other heavy-equipment platforms.
- Ability to balance accuracy, robustness, latency, scalability, and maintainability at the system level.
