Senior Mechanical Engineer (Robotics)

What you will do

• Own the humanoid robot upper arm end to end, including shoulder and elbow structures, links, housings, and interfaces.
• Design load paths, actuator mounts, electrical pass-throughs, harness routing, service loops, connectorization, and strain relief for the moving arm.
• Package PCBAs, sensor boards, and electronics within constrained mechanical envelopes while addressing grounding, shielding, vibration, and serviceability.
• Develop thermal conduction paths and interface strategies for high-power actuators and electronics, and validate performance under sustained duty cycles.
• Lead structural, thermal, and cable-durability prototype builds and test campaigns, participate in FMEAs, and drive root-cause analysis.
• Maintain CAD models, drawings, tolerance stacks, interface-control documents, and BOMs through design reviews and manufacturing handoffs; mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field; MS preferred.
• 5+ years of mechanical design experience with robots, robotic arms, or complex electromechanical products.
• Strong experience with high-load dynamic structures, structural analysis correlated to physical testing, and quantitative engineering trade-offs.
• Experience integrating high-torque actuators, designing cable harnesses for moving mechanisms, and packaging electronics in constrained assemblies.
• Expert-level CAD proficiency with Catia, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape, or similar, including complex assemblies and tolerance analysis.
• Deep knowledge of machining, casting, sheet metal, 3D printing, design for manufacture, hands-on prototyping, testing, and cross-team interface development.

Nice to have

• Experience with serial-link mechanisms, dynamic-limb mass and inertia optimization, topology optimization, or structural lightweighting.
• Knowledge of high-flex cables, continuous-flex ratings, and bend-cycle testing.
• Experience with structural castings, complex machined housings, GD&T under ASME Y14.5, FMEAs, and structured reliability programs.
• Experience taking a subsystem from concept through DVT/PVT into production.
