TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (Robotics) (Mechanical Design/High-Volume Manufacturing): Designing and taking robot parts and sub-assemblies from concept through high-volume production with an accent on prototyping, component testing, tolerance analysis, and supplier manufacturing processes. Focus on developing production-ready hardware, diagnosing field failures, and balancing mechanical designs with electrical, firmware, software, and industrial design constraints.

Location: Menlo Park, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $120,000–$200,000 per annum, plus equity and benefits.

Company

hirify.global develops private-by-design home robots, including a floor-cleaning robot using real-time 3D mapping, adaptive path tracking, semantic home understanding, RGB cameras, and on-device neural networks.

What you will do

  • Design mechanical parts and sub-assemblies and carry them from concept through mass production.
  • Build prototypes, perform component-level performance and durability testing, and iterate on designs.
  • Create accelerated test plans to predict field behavior and investigate production or field failures.
  • Release production-ready 2D drawings with GD&T and complete tolerance stack-ups.
  • Work with vendors and contract manufacturers on DFM feedback, tooling reviews, and first article inspection.
  • Collaborate with electrical, firmware, software, and industrial design engineers to balance the complete robot system.

Requirements

  • Personal experience designing parts that are currently in production.
  • Practical expertise in at least one high-volume process: injection molding, die casting, stamping, or metal injection molding.
  • Experience with tolerance stack-ups, datum schemes, and GD&T on owned assemblies and drawings.
  • Deep SolidWorks proficiency, plus experience with PDM/PLM, ECOs, and quality systems.
  • Experience using FEA to support engineering decisions and understanding model limitations.
  • Technical degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent; around 2+ years of professional design experience is typical.

Nice to have

  • Experience debugging field failures from failure mode to the underlying design decision.
  • Experience in a fast-paced hardware startup or home robotics environment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on ownership from initial concept through production and field failures.
  • Work includes prototyping, reliability testing, supplier coordination, documentation, and production support.
  • Collaborative environment with engineers expected to help across subsystem and lab issues.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Access to a 401(k) plan and discretionary equity program.
