Metrology Engineer (Fusion Energy)

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; Workplace: On-site. The role requires working at heights of up to 35 feet, in confined spaces, and around industrial hazards. Occasional nights, weekends, on-call work, and travel may be required.

hirify.global Systems is developing SPARC, a tokamak-style fusion power demonstrator designed to achieve net-energy plasmas and enable the future ARC fusion power plant.

What you will do

• Use laser trackers and portable 3D metrology equipment for precision alignments and dimensional inspections of SPARC components and structures.
• Perform metrology work independently and collaboratively according to the project metrology plan.
• Optimize measurement sequences and maintain organized metrology files and datasets.
• Evaluate measurement uncertainty, analyze data accuracy, and communicate results to stakeholders.
• Develop workflows to resolve misalignment issues and collaborate with design and engineering teams on custom metrology solutions.
• Maintain metrology equipment and assist with assembly activities when required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience using laser trackers for mid- to large-scale 3D metrology in manufacturing or job-site environments.
• 5+ years of experience with portable metrology software and advanced 3D data analysis, such as SpatialAnalyzer, PolyWorks, or Verisurf.
• Experience with laser line scanners, precision alignment of complex structures, large metrology control networks, CAD-based inspection, and traditional metrology tools.
• Intermediate understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5, measurement uncertainty, environmental effects on measurements, and mechanical drawings.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights with fall protection, use MEWPs and ladders, work in confined spaces, and operate safely around industrial hazards.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• 7+ years of laser tracker experience or 7+ years using SpatialAnalyzer.
• Experience operating multiple instruments in tandem, or using measurement arms, photogrammetry, optical CMMs, or other portable 3D metrology equipment.
• 3+ years of CAD experience designing custom metrology tooling.
• Advanced application of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
