Senior Metrology & Inspection Engineer (Fusion)

What you will do

• Develop in-process inspection procedures for components and assemblies throughout fabrication.
• Translate production and quality requirements for fusion targets and sub-assemblies into inspection strategies.
• Design and fabricate specialized fixtures for high-precision measurement and component handling.
• Perform detailed measurement analysis of components produced through diamond turning, electroplating, and thin-film coating.
• Establish scalable metrology capabilities and data-management workflows for prototyping and high-throughput production.
• Select and qualify metrology equipment according to precision, cost, schedule, and target requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• Expert knowledge of metrology and precision manufacturing, including GD&T and technical drawings.
• Experience integrating inspection systems into engineering and manufacturing workflows.
• Strong analytical and data-driven process-engineering skills for improving fabrication yields.
• Ability to collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technicians to resolve quality issues.
• Proficiency in CAD modeling for measurement setups and precision handling fixtures.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or PhD.
• Experience with non-contact optical systems, contact probes, radiography, and tomography.
• Experience inspecting millimeter-scale components with micron or sub-micron tolerances.
• Experience developing automated inspection systems for high-volume production.
• Materials science knowledge or project management experience in complex manufacturing processes.
