TL;DR
Manager, Field Mechanical Engineering - Assembly (Tokamak Assembly): Leading field mechanical engineering for SPARC tokamak assembly workstations, including assembly planning, tooling, procedures, troubleshooting, and hands-on operations with an accent on manufacturing readiness, precision alignment, and complex mechanical integration. Focus on managing engineers, resolving non-conformances, optimizing assembly workflows, and ensuring high-load, vacuum, and tightly packaged assemblies can be installed safely and reliably.

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site. The role requires working on-site five days per week when assembly operations with relevant tools are underway, with possible first- or second-shift assignments. Occasional travel, nights, weekends, or on-call work may be required for vendor visits.

Company

hirify.global develops fusion energy technology, including the SPARC tokamak and its assembly systems.

What you will do

  • Lead a team of four to eight field mechanical engineers responsible for SPARC assembly workstations.
  • Plan station scopes, tools, procedures, workflows, timelines, and process implementation.
  • Establish mechanical assembly standards for alignment, installation, rework, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Provide assembly and manufacturing feedback on SPARC subsystem designs and participate in design reviews.
  • Resolve technical conflicts, non-conformances, red-line changes, and assembly-process issues with adjacent teams.
  • Support hands-on tokamak assembly and solve complex challenges involving high loads, vacuum requirements, and precision manipulation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of mechanical engineering experience demonstrating project ownership.
  • At least 2 years managing or overseeing an active construction, manufacturing, assembly, or integration process.
  • At least 2 years of experience with CAD software.
  • Ability to work on-site five days per week during relevant assembly operations and to work occasional nights, weekends, or on-call shifts.
  • Ability to work in an industrial facility with heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs and perform extended periods of typing, standing, stooping, climbing, or sitting is required.

Nice to have

  • Six or more years of mechanical engineering experience and four or more years managing active construction, manufacturing, assembly, or integration processes.
  • Experience with Siemens NX, lifting operations, welding, piping and tubing construction, and joining.
  • Experience leading complex assembly teams or working with highly complex, delicate, or tightly packaged assemblies.
  • Experience in fast-paced construction, manufacturing, assembly, or integration builds.

Culture & Benefits

  • Competitive compensation with equity.
  • 13 company-wide holidays, flexible vacation days, and 10 sick days.
  • Generous parental leave policy.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance plus a 401(k) with employer matching.
  • Professional growth opportunities and team-building activities.
  • Employment is contingent on compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws for controlled or protected technologies and information.
