Staff Software Developer (AI)

Location: USA, Ohio, Columbus; priority given to candidates residing in the Columbus metropolitan area

Salary: $155,300–$258,800 per year

What you will do

• Define architectural direction and technical strategy across multiple products, systems, and engineering teams.
• Evaluate architectural tradeoffs and create reusable technical patterns, reference implementations, and engineering standards.
• Improve software quality, reliability, security, observability, automated testing, production readiness, and system performance.
• Advance shared tooling, platform capabilities, development workflows, and developer productivity.
• Define the strategy for AI-assisted software development and responsible AI-enabled engineering practices.
• Mentor senior engineers, influence technical and product stakeholders, and contribute to design, prototyping, troubleshooting, and critical development efforts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience designing and building enterprise-scale systems.
• Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams, products, or organizational boundaries.
• Experience with distributed systems, APIs, integration platforms, or cloud-native applications.
• Ability to influence technical direction without formal management authority and mentor engineers.
• Visa sponsorship is not available presently or in the future.

Nice to have

• Healthcare, pharmacy, payer, regulated-industry, healthcare interoperability, or prior authorization experience.
• Experience supporting engineering organizations with 50+ developers across multiple products.
• Experience building developer platforms, shared services, or internal engineering tooling.
• Experience with architectural modernization, engineering effectiveness metrics, AWS, or other major cloud platforms.
• Previous experience as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Lead Architect, or equivalent senior individual contributor.
