Senior Systems Engineer I, Off Planet Systems Space Robotics

What you will do

• Lead cross-functional, multidisciplinary design, development, and testing of spaceflight hardware programs.
• Apply NASA and NASA-like systems engineering approaches, including Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), to manage requirements, milestones, and system needs.
• Own multiple programs and interrelated projects, coordinating communication, priorities, influence, negotiation, and customer interfaces.
• Analyze stakeholder needs, identify gaps and risks, and define timely mitigation strategies.
• Communicate program status and technical information to stakeholders and leadership through presentations, dashboards, email, and verbal briefings.
• Lead engineering, science, and technical teams developing complex electro-mechanical robotic systems while ensuring objectives and deliverables are met.

Requirements

• Ability to work onsite at the Austin, Texas campus
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a STEM-related field; mechanical or aerospace engineering background preferred.
• 8+ years of engineering product development experience, including 3+ years in R&D developing new products.
• 5+ years of systems engineering experience for space applications and a record of completing hardware system development projects.
• Strong understanding of requirements capture, risk management, system block diagrams, work breakdown structures, and MBSE.
• Experience in R&D engineering, testing and validation, manufacturing, technical documentation, and communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with robotic systems, aerospace, spaceflight hardware development, additive manufacturing, or large-scale engineering projects.
• Previous startup experience and the ability to streamline or develop efficient processes.
• Master’s degree in Systems Engineering or systems engineering certifications.
• Experience leading operations and technical teams and quickly adopting new technical concepts.
