Senior Systems Engineer I (Aerospace)

Location: Tucson, Arizona, United States; onsite at the Optical Systems site

What you will do

• Support system architecture for space-based optical instruments, subsystems, and payloads on airborne and space platforms.
• Define, decompose, and manage system requirements covering electrical behavior, control functions, subsystem interactions, and overall performance.
• Develop architecture descriptions, interface control documents, electrical interface definitions, concepts of operations, state and mode descriptions, test plans, and verification artifacts.
• Support electrical and functional architecture development, including command and telemetry flow, power distribution, control logic, signal paths, timing, and synchronization.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, firmware, and test teams during payload development, integration, troubleshooting, verification, and validation.
• Participate in architecture trades, technical interchange meetings, risk mitigation, and customer or partner discussions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, systems, aerospace engineering, or another technical discipline.
• At least 5 years of engineering experience, including 3+ years supporting development programs and 2+ years in technical leadership, CAM, IPTL, or equivalent work.
• Systems engineering experience focused on electrical architecture, subsystem integration, and controls development.
• Strong electrical engineering background in aerospace, payload, avionics, instrument, or other complex systems.
• Experience with system requirements, interface definitions, verification approaches, integration and testing, and requirements or modeling tools such as JAMA, DOORS, or Cameo.
• For work in U.S. offices, eligibility under U.S. Government ITAR requirements is required, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, refugee or asylum status, or eligibility to obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

• Current SSBI clearance.
• EO/IR payload integration, spacecraft bus interfaces, avionics architecture, or embedded electronics experience.
• Experience with pointing, stabilization, gimbals, motion control, focus or control electronics, and closed-loop control applications.
• Experience troubleshooting electrical architectures for sensors, actuators, motors, power systems, or embedded controllers.
• Background in astronomy, physics, or remote sensing.
