TL;DR
Lead Assembly Technician - Second Shift (Fusion Energy Assembly): Coordinating technician teams and completing the mechanical integration of coils, vacuum vessels, instrumentation, support structures, tooling, diagnostics, and superconducting cable bundles for the SPARC tokamak with an accent on large-scale technical assembly, lifting operations, and precision alignment. Focus on organizing shift work, troubleshooting assembly issues, coordinating engineers and quality teams, and maintaining safe, high-quality construction of a tightly integrated fusion device.

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site, second shift from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm

Salary: $32–$52 per hour plus a 10% second-shift differential, equity, and benefits

What you will do

  • Coordinate daily assembly activities and assign technicians and technician teams according to schedule priorities.
  • Review work orders covering mechanical, welding, electrical, and lifting tasks.
  • Oversee the handling, alignment, lifting, and mechanical integration of coils, vacuum vessels, instrumentation, support structures, tooling, diagnostics, and superconducting cable bundles.
  • Participate in major on-site component lifts and movements and coordinate specialized external work teams.
  • Provide shift kick-off and hand-off reports, track completed work, and communicate operational status to the Assembly team.
  • Troubleshoot assembly issues, develop workarounds, escalate non-conformances, and coordinate with engineering, metrology, quality, and testing teams.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in a highly technical assembly role, such as aerospace, semiconductor, oil and gas, power plants, wind, racing, or automotive.
  • 2–3 years of experience overseeing a team of five or more people and experience completing large-scale projects end to end.
  • Experience assisting lifting operations and knowledge of joining and integration methods, including bolted interfaces, flanges, welding, and epoxies.
  • Ability to work on-site in Devens, Massachusetts, including platforms around 25 feet high, confined spaces, and environments with industrial hazards.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs and willingness to work occasional required nights, weekends, on-call shifts, or travel.

Nice to have

  • 10+ years in a highly technical assembly role or 3+ years leading a team of ten or more.
  • Forklift operation, basic machining, tooling design, fixture construction, or rigging and heavy-component lifting experience.
  • Experience with JIRA, Manufacturo, metrology tools, precision alignment, vacuum systems, clean rooms, or cryogenic systems.
