Lead Mechanical Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Helsinki, Finland. Working hours are expected to provide overlap with U.S.-based colleagues, customers, and business partners, typically from 11:00/12:00 to 19:00/20:00 local time.

What you will do

• Design and develop quantum-computing hardware products from the ground up.
• Develop system and subsystem concepts and perform trade-off analyses to select effective solutions.
• Translate customer needs into product and technical requirements that guide design decisions.
• Create complex mechanical designs, drawings, and documentation for parts and assemblies using DFX principles.
• Own subsystem development and sustaining activities, including planning, documentation, requirements gathering, and engineering change orders.
• Work with manufacturing and operations to transition products from concept to scalable, high-quality production.

Requirements

• Degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
• 10–15 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably involving capital equipment and machine design.
• Exceptional CAD and product documentation skills.
• Experience designing machined components, sheet metal, and weldments with an emphasis on DFM.
• Demonstrated ability to bring complex products from concept to production.
• Strong independent execution, adaptability, teamwork, and written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ansys or equivalent analysis software.
• Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Experience with NRTL and CE product safety standards.
• Hands-on experience building prototypes, test apparatus, and fixtures.
• Machine shop and fabrication skills, plus an understanding of software and electrical systems.
