TL;DR
Advanced Opto-Mechanical Engineer (Quantum Computing): Designing and developing opto-mechanical systems for advanced micro-optic and photonic systems, with an accent on optical assembly, testing, and alignment. Focus on building assembly tooling, applying CAD and GD&T principles, integrating motion-control systems, and solving structural and thermal challenges with FEA.

Location: On-site in Broomfield, Colorado, United States. Must be a U.S. Person; candidates must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, green card holders, or workers granted asylum or refugee status. Due to national security requirements, Chinese or Russian nationals are not eligible unless also U.S. citizens.

Salary: $116,000–$145,000 annually

What you will do

  • Support the development of commercial and research quantum computing systems with physicists, optical engineers, and opto-mechanical engineers.
  • Design and develop opto-mechanical systems for assembling and testing advanced micro-optic and photonic systems.
  • Build, test, and align optical systems.
  • Create drawings and assembly processes for optical systems.
  • Apply fabrication, machining, assembly, and testing practices to optical hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • At least 6 years of experience, including advanced-degree experience, in opto-mechanical CAD design for optical or photonic applications, product development, assembly tooling, or test equipment.
  • Experience with optical or photonic assembly and broad knowledge of optical principles.
  • U.S. Person status is required.
  • Chinese or Russian nationals must also be U.S. citizens to qualify.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in optics, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with Onshape or an equivalent CAD system and GD&T principles.
  • Experience with motion-control systems, vision-assisted or active-feedback optical alignment, materials and adhesives for optical assemblies, and FEA.
  • Experience with polarization-maintaining fiber and micro-optics systems.
