TL;DR
Scientist/Senior Scientist - Translational Cardiac Biology (cardiac biology and cryopreservation): Developing cardiac cell and 3D in vitro models to evaluate the toxicity, permeability, viability, and function of cryoprotectant solutions for organ-scale reversible cryopreservation with an accent on high-throughput screening and translational assay development. Focus on designing multiparametric experiments, measuring contractility, electrophysiology, and calcium handling, and translating findings into cryoprotectant formulations for human-sized organ preservation.

Location: Bay Area, on-site

Salary: $120,000–$180,000 per year, plus potential equity.

hirify.global is an early-stage moonshot company developing organ-scale reversible cryopreservation technologies, including perfusion systems, cryoprotectant formulations, vitrification, and rewarming hardware.

What you will do

  • Develop clinically translatable cardiac in vitro models using primary, immortalized, and iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes.
  • Design and execute high-throughput screening experiments to measure cardiac-cell viability and functional performance.
  • Create and validate 3D cardiac models, including organoids, engineered heart tissues, and micro-tissues.
  • Characterize cardiotoxicity, permeability, contractility, electrophysiology, and calcium handling for new cryoprotectant compounds.
  • Apply plate-reader, flow cytometry, and genomics techniques, including GWAS, RNA sequencing, and FISH, to refine models and support molecular discovery.
  • Collaborate across disciplines, translate findings into cryoprotectant formulations, and mentor team members.

Requirements

  • PhD or postdoctoral training in cardiac physiology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, tissue engineering, pharmacology, toxicology, or a related field, or 4+ years of equivalent industry experience leading research projects.
  • Independent experience developing and executing complex experiments in cardiac biology or a related therapeutic area.
  • Hands-on expertise in cell-based assay development with primary cells, iPSC-derived cell types, or 3D in vitro models.
  • Experience designing high-throughput screening workflows and analyzing multiparametric datasets.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience applying pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic frameworks to cryoprotectant formulation development.
  • Experience with cardiac electrophysiology, contractility measurement, or calcium imaging.
  • Peer-reviewed publications in cardiac biology, cryobiology, toxicology, or related fields.
