TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and implementing structural assembly methods, work instructions, manufacturing processes, and tooling for complex electric aircraft with an accent on lean manufacturing, production integration, and process optimization. Focus on applying FMEA and DOE to solve manufacturing problems, improving assembly yield, and supporting precision drilling, fastening, inspection, and testing operations.

Location: South Burlington, Vermont, United States; manufacturing production-line work with willingness to travel domestically or internationally, including Canada.

Salary: $80,000–$110,000 USD per year, plus equity for full-time team members.

What you will do

  • Define and implement assembly and installation methods for complex aircraft structures and systems.
  • Plan and document work instructions and optimal assembly sequences for structural, system, and experimental components.
  • Develop, configure, and optimize industrial processes from inception through start-up and certification.
  • Apply FMEA, DOE, and Lean Six Sigma tools to identify root causes, execute corrective actions, improve yield, and implement automation.
  • Generate manufacturing documentation and support manufacturing, inspection, and test operations.
  • Design manufacturing aids and tooling for precision locating, drilling, and fastening, while supporting production scheduling and critical-path coordination.

Requirements

  • Direct experience in a Lean or Manufacturing Engineering position.
  • Experience working with cross-functional mechanical, electrical, software, quality, supply chain, certification, and manufacturing teams.
  • Experience with CAD design; 3DX and Delmia are preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems; PLEX is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility in a rapidly changing environment and willingness to travel domestically or internationally, including Canada.

Nice to have

  • Experience creating work instructions, leading manufacturing teams, production and process planning, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of ASTM, AS/ISO9001, and type-certification aircraft processes.
  • Knowledge of design for assembly, lean manufacturing, capacity planning, aircraft structures, systems, or interiors.
  • Experience with aluminum, steel, composites, foam, aircraft fasteners, manual or automated drilling, tooling, robotics, and hardware.
