TL;DR
Environmental Test Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and managing environmental test plans, equipment, and procedures for spacecraft and components with an accent on vibration, shock, thermal cycling, TVAC, EMI/EMC, and pneumatic pressure testing. Focus on analyzing test data, troubleshooting spacecraft and test equipment, and improving high-rate production testing for reliable space systems.

Location: Los Angeles, United States; in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office. U.S. Persons status is required to access export-controlled data.

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 annual base salary, plus equity.

What you will do

  • Develop, execute, and manage environmental testing plans, procedures, protocols, and requirements.
  • Conduct vibration, shock, thermal cycling, TVAC, EMI/EMC, pneumatic pressure, production, and qualification testing.
  • Scope, purchase, set up, maintain, and troubleshoot environmental testing equipment.
  • Analyze test data, interpret results, and prepare comprehensive test reports.
  • Collaborate with production, design, and quality assurance teams to resolve spacecraft and test-equipment issues.
  • Improve testing methodologies and provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of environmental testing experience in the aerospace industry.
  • Knowledge of aerospace testing standards including MIL-STD-461, GSFC-STD-7000, SMC-S-016, and MIL-STD-810.
  • Experience operating and maintaining environmental testing equipment and using instrumentation such as thermocouples, accelerometers, and data acquisition systems.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Nice to have

  • Certification in relevant aerospace standards.
  • Avionics functional or pneumatic pressure testing experience.
  • Programming experience with Python or LabVIEW.
  • Experience scaling environmental testing to a high production rate.
  • Knowledge of data acquisition and analysis software.
