Machining Manager

Location: Benson, North Carolina; initially at Johnston Community College's Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Four Oaks, North Carolina, with an expected move to Benson and travel to the development site in Durham, North Carolina.

What you will do

• Lead day-to-day machining and grinding operations for finished, on-specification rare-earth magnet shapes.
• Maintain and operate CNC equipment, wire EDM, grinders, mills, lathes, wire saws, and lasers.
• Lead, train, and manage machinists and operators while planning production and development runs.
• Create processing parameters, SOPs, workholding solutions, and operational documentation.
• Perform first-article, test, and dimensional inspections and process parts to internal and external specifications.
• Coordinate scheduling, personnel, equipment, materials, inventory, cost estimates, and lead-time estimates with engineers, technicians, customer-facing teams, and coating teams.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Hands-on experience operating and managing precision machining or grinding operations, including supervising a team.
• At least 3 years of experience with CAD and CAM software, plus familiarity with G and M code.
• Knowledge of technical drawings, GD&T, blueprint reading, dimensional metrology, and analog and digital inspection tools.
• Understanding of machining safety, including dust, coolant, electrically energized EDM systems, PPE, respirators, and lockout/tagout procedures.

Nice to have

• Experience with hard, brittle, or sintered materials such as rare-earth magnets, ceramics, or carbide.
• Experience with wire saws, linear or 5-axis grinding, wire or sinker EDM, laser cutters, waterjets, or diamond wire saws.
• Experience creating custom G-code post processors, multiaxis grinding, die and toolmaking, or automated part loading.
• Experience estimating cost and lead time for new and repeat work.
