Senior Prototype Design Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Sunnyvale, United States; periodic international travel to South Korea approximately 10–20% of the time

Salary: $167,000–$230,840 per year

What you will do

• Build high-fidelity, testable physical and digital prototypes for advanced vehicle experiences.
• Bridge Industrial Design, Mechanical Design, and UX Design in cohesive in-vehicle interaction systems.
• Develop and iterate on haptic controllers, steering wheel interfaces, integrated displays, sensors, actuators, and hybrid concepts.
• Create interactive flows and interaction models using Figma, ProtoPie, vibe coding, CAD, and 3D printing.
• Collaborate with software engineering to validate interaction models, user journeys, and architectural feasibility in vehicles.
• Prepare reusable prototypes and compelling demonstrations for leadership reviews, customer clinics, and international demo sessions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, HCI, or a related technical field.
• 6+ years of professional experience in product design, engineering, or rapid prototyping.
• Proficiency in Figma, ProtoPie, vibe coding, Arduino, and industry-standard CAD tools.
• Demonstrated experience across Industrial Design, Mechanical Design, and UX Design.
• Hands-on ability with hardware integration, physical assembly, disassembly, soldering, and building or repairing physical prototypes.

Nice to have

• Experience with 3D modeling and CAD.
• Familiarity with automotive HMI or ADAS interaction models.
• Experience with rapid hardware prototyping using Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or custom electronics.
