Mechanical Design Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Charlestown, Boston, Massachusetts, United States; onsite five days per week. Travel of approximately 25% is expected.

Salary: USD $125,000–$145,000 per year, depending on skills, experience, and location.

What you will do

• Design mechanical systems and components for AI-driven robots from concept through fabrication.
• Create detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and fabrication and assembly documentation.
• Conduct mechanical simulations, performance testing, prototyping, and hands-on troubleshooting.
• Optimize designs for cost, efficiency, manufacturability, and system performance.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to integrate mechanical components with electrical and software systems.
• Source components and coordinate with vendors, suppliers, procurement, and fabrication partners on quality and lead times.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computational Mechanics, Engineering Science, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, particularly in robotics or automation.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, or similar.
• Understanding of mechanical testing and prototyping processes.
• Strong knowledge of material properties, manufacturing methods, and system integration.
• Comfort working hands-on in a lab and shop environment.

Nice to have

• Experience in industrial design or special-purpose machinery.
• Experience with simulation and FEA tools.
