Senior Mechanical Engineer (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Fremont, CA; On-site

Salary: $150,000–$195,000 per year; exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience.

Physical AI company developing AI-based virtual driver software and hardware platforms for factory-built autonomous trucks, with operations in the United States and Europe.

What you will do

• Define hardware architecture for integration into OEM vehicles.
• Design mechanical, thermal, cosmetic cover, and finish solutions for autonomous vehicles.
• Collaborate with OEMs, partners, and cross-functional teams to define product requirements and secure alignment on final designs and integration plans.
• Build and improve new and existing hardware platform designs.
• Work according to Quality Management System requirements, monitor quality, and drive continuous process improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years of hands-on, detailed product design experience.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Unigraphics, including experience with surfacing tools.
• Knowledge and experience with GD&T and releasing 2D drawings.
• Experience working with vendor FAI/CPK dimensional reports.
• Practical experience resolving DFM challenges with external vendors.

Nice to have

• Knowledge and experience with Pdmlink or Arena.
• Extensive experience with CAD, product design, requirements management, and tracking and resolving issues.
• Ability to work cross-functionally to achieve product goals.
• Hands-on mechanical and manufacturing process experience and engineering development.
• Experience with FEA tools and understanding of vibration, fatigue, and solid mechanics.
• First-principles understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and electrical fundamentals.
• Ability to travel.
