Atomic Source Physicist (Quantum Computing)

Location: US Broomfield, Colorado; on-site. Candidates must be U.S. Persons. Due to national security requirements, Chinese or Russian nationals are not eligible unless they are also U.S. citizens.

Salary: $135,000–$180,000 annually

What you will do

• Conceptualize, design, build, and validate atomic sources for trapped-ion quantum computing systems.
• Work directly with experimental physicists and engineers to develop and test new concepts.
• Build and operate complex atomic physics systems and collect and analyze experimental datasets.
• Communicate research results internally and externally through publications and presentations.
• Develop, implement, and oversee scientific best practices across the experimental team.

Requirements

• PhD in physics or a related field completed before the start date.
• At least 5 years of atomic physics experience, including PhD experience.
• U.S. Person status: U.S. citizenship, permanent residency or green card, asylum or refugee status.
• Hands-on experience building and operating complex atomic physics systems.
• Excellent written, oral communication, collaboration, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Published research results in the relevant field.

Nice to have

• Experience with magneto-optical traps, atomic or molecular beams, and cold-atom techniques.
• Experience with trapped ions and quantum computing hardware.
• Simulation and modeling experience to inform experiments.
• Programming experimental control systems for data collection, signal processing, and data analysis.
• Experience working and negotiating with customers and partners.
