Manufacturing Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

Location: On-site in Los Angeles, CA; facility located in Hawthorne, CA

What you will do

• Support scalable manufacturing processes for new hardware and printed parts.
• Assist with fixturing, test procedures, post-processing, tooling, jigs, and test setups.
• Develop documentation and process standards for production scaling.
• Identify bottlenecks in part, material, and data flow and improve factory operations with cross-functional teams.
• Support the transition from R&D to high-rate manufacturing.
• Contribute to CNC machining workflows, including programming, setup, and optimization of multi-axis operations.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or manufacturing engineering at an ABET-accredited university or college.
• Hands-on manufacturing or build experience from internships, engineering clubs, or similar activities.
• Experience working with hand tools, machinery, or complex hardware assembly.
• Willingness to work on-site in the Los Angeles/Hawthorne, California facility.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in mechanical, aerospace, or manufacturing engineering.
• Experience with CNC machining, including 3- or 5-axis programming or setup.
• Experience with metal additive manufacturing, precision post-processing, fixturing, DFM, or process validation.
• Experience scaling early-stage R&D into production and familiarity with MRP/ERP or production tracking systems.
• Strong communication, ownership, collaboration, and hands-on problem-solving skills in fast-paced hardware environments.
