What you will do

• Design fixtures, jigs, and workholding for CNC milling and turning, from concepts through detailed CAD models and drawings.
• Work with machinists and CNC programmers to validate fit, rigidity, tolerance, and cycle-time impact before production.
• Specify, source, and coordinate fabrication of tooling and fixture components with vendors and machine shops.
• Qualify new fixtures and setups through first-article inspection and machine fit-up.
• Maintain a documented tooling and fixture library with revision control.
• Improve part-holding methods and support the tooling and workholding layout of the new manufacturing facility.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience designing fixtures, jigs, or workholding for CNC machining, with designed parts running in production.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent hands-on tooling and fixture design experience.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to perform trade studies and make recommendations using first principles.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software and fluency in GD&T.
• Working knowledge of CNC milling and turning processes and the effect of fixture design on cycle time and tolerance.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary.

Nice to have

• Experience with modular workholding systems such as 5th-axis vises, vacuum fixturing, or quick-change tombstones.
• Experience supporting a new or growing CNC machine shop and new part introduction.
• Experience in aerospace, defense, nuclear, or another regulated manufacturing environment.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, highly technical environment with tight timelines or budget constraints.
