Specialist, Hardware & Software Variant Management (Automotive)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina, or Novi, Michigan, United States. Requires 4–5 days per week in the office, with limited hybrid flexibility, regular in-person meetings, and occasional domestic and international travel. A valid driver's license and passport are required.

Salary: $110,000–$135,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Manage hardware and software variant landscapes across vehicle programs.
• Define variant statuses, buildable vehicle combinations, configuration rules, and lifecycle strategies.
• Support software, OTA, and configuration concepts across product definition and release processes.
• Track complexity KPIs, analyze complexity drivers, and recommend improvements to cost, differentiation, and operational efficiency.
• Maintain consistent variant data across PLM, ERP, software configuration management, and OTA platforms.
• Coordinate engineering, product management, purchasing, manufacturing, IT, finance, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in automotive product management, vehicle configuration, systems engineering, or a related field.
• Strong experience with vehicle variants, product configuration, or hardware and software complexity management.
• Understanding of E/E architecture, software configuration, OTA concepts, and buildable configuration combinations.
• Experience with PLM, ERP, or configuration management systems and with defining product complexity KPIs.
• Strong analytical, structured problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to work in the Charlotte or Novi office 4–5 days per week and travel occasionally; valid driver's license and passport required.

Nice to have

• Experience with automotive program development from concept to production.
• German language skills.
• Experience developing or implementing tools for data analysis, configuration, or reporting.
