TL;DR
Commissioning Test Engineer (Nuclear): Developing and leading systematic tests that demonstrate facility systems meet design specifications and are ready for safe operation, with an accent on nuclear conduct of operations, disciplined documentation, and system turnover. Focus on analyzing test data, troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control, and process systems, and coordinating commissioning with engineering, construction, operations, maintenance, and QA.

Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee, United States; 5 days in office. Working hours are 8:00am–5:00pm, Monday–Friday.

Salary: $110,000–$135,000 for Level III, $145,000–$170,000 for Level IV, and $175,000–$200,000 for Level V, base salary.

What you will do

  • Develop and execute systematic test procedures for facility systems, including acceptance criteria, data collection requirements, and safety controls.
  • Collect, analyze, and document test data while maintaining accurate, complete, and traceable test records.
  • Troubleshoot complex system issues with Responsible Engineers, equipment vendors, Operations personnel, Maintenance craft, and QA inspectors.
  • Lead or support system turnover from construction to commissioning and from commissioning to operations.
  • Coordinate multi-discipline testing through the Joint Test Group and resolve technical concerns through disciplined inquiry.
  • Lead pre-job briefings, hazard identification, work control, and stop-work or protective actions when test conditions are abnormal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, nuclear, or related engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Relevant experience in commissioning, startup, operational testing, or maintenance: typically 5 years for Level III, 10 years for Level IV, or 15 years for Level V.
  • Experience with test procedure development or execution, test data collection and analysis, troubleshooting, and disciplined technical documentation.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, control logic diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Experience in nuclear, chemical process, pharmaceutical, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Must work onsite in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Monday through Friday.
