TL;DR
Principal Equipment Engineer - PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) (Semiconductor Manufacturing): Maintaining, troubleshooting, upgrading, and commissioning PVD equipment in a 200mm wafer fabrication facility with an accent on equipment availability, yield improvement, and spare-parts continuity. Focus on solving electro-mechanical, pneumatic, high-vacuum, and RF-generator issues, leading improvement projects, and mentoring equipment engineering team members.

Location: Fully onsite in Essex Junction, Vermont, United States; Monday–Friday daytime schedule with occasional evenings or weekends as needed. Up to 10% travel.

Expected salary: $85,000–$146,000 per year, depending on qualifications, experience, and location.

What you will do

  • Support preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrades, installation, and startup of PVD equipment.
  • Analyze technical charts and drive equipment improvement projects focused on availability, cost reduction, and yield.
  • Collaborate with maintenance technicians, process engineers, facilities, procurement, suppliers, and contractors to meet production demands.
  • Manage spare-parts planning, repair budgets, supplier quality, and continuity of supply.
  • Support cross-functional problem solving and ensure safe handling of tools, equipment, and property.
  • Mentor and lead lower-level equipment engineering team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or related engineering plus 4–5 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree plus 2–3 years of relevant experience.
  • Understanding of and troubleshooting experience with electro-mechanical and pneumatic systems, pumps, high-vacuum systems, and RF generators.
  • Ability to perform data analysis and report findings and action plans to leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent English, written and verbal, is required.
  • Ability to work onsite in a cleanroom, including standing, bending, crouching, lifting parts up to 30 pounds, and wearing required personal protective equipment.

Nice to have

  • Supplier and contractor management experience.
  • Experience with PLCs, control systems, and instrumentation.
  • Project management experience.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and cleanroom facilities.
