Staff Systems Engineer (Semiconductor Equipment)

Location: Milpitas, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $130,000–$200,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own critical utility subsystems, including vacuum pumps, chillers, and gas delivery modules, along with P&IDs, FMEAs, and equipment layouts.
• Operate equipment hands-on and diagnose complex electromechanical and software issues during R&D cycles and commissioning.
• Coordinate technical interfaces across mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams.
• Author and maintain equipment specifications and system requirements for R&D platforms.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, equipment upgrades, and installations.
• Standardize engineering workflows and operational SOPs, report progress and budget variances, and drive consensus in a matrixed environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industrial experience.
• 12+ years of experience operating, integrating, or designing complex R&D systems or semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
• Experience managing hardware–software interfaces in motor-controlled and sensor-heavy environments.
• Practical experience with vacuum architecture, including pumps, gauges, and leak detection, and thermal management systems such as chillers and heat exchangers.
• Experience with tool troubleshooting, diagnostic equipment, software control interfaces, project accounting, and scheduling software.
• Ability to work on-site and occasionally travel, work nights or weekends, or provide on-call support; ability to lift up to 25 lbs and work safely around industrial hazards.

Nice to have

• Semiconductor manufacturing or high-end R&D experience.
• Knowledge of SEMI, ASME, and safety standards for vacuum and high-voltage equipment.
• Understanding of PLC or custom software control logic for industrial automation.
