TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer (Automotive) (manufacturing processes and equipment): Developing and improving manufacturing processes, equipment, and documentation for automotive production with an accent on safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity. Focus on troubleshooting mechanical equipment, designing manufacturable processes, launching stable and capable operations, and coordinating complex projects with suppliers and cross-functional teams.

Location: Onsite in Rochester, New York, United States; full-time presence at the assigned location is required.

Salary: $80,700–$109,400 base compensation per year, plus potential incentive pay.

What you will do

  • Lead engineering activities from concept initiation through implementation and process control.
  • Identify and implement solutions for repairing mechanical equipment, reducing downtime, and improving output.
  • Support the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment using blueprints and machine schematics.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes, procedures, and documentation for efficiency, quality, cost-effectiveness, and productivity.
  • Collaborate with design and production teams to ensure the manufacturability of new products and components.
  • Coordinate engineering support groups, vendors, expenditures, and complex process or equipment projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, electrical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects with substantial autonomy and accountability.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project-management skills.
  • Proficiency with engineering, manufacturing, data-analysis, and project-management tools.
  • Proficiency with computer modeling software such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or equivalent systems.
  • Willingness to work onsite in the plant, including occasional off-shift work or travel; GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship, and existing U.S. work authorization is required.

Nice to have

  • Automotive or high-volume manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, PFMEA, control plans, standardized work, and process capability.
  • Experience with automation, robotics, manufacturing controls, machining, and assembly processes.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical equipment and leading capital equipment projects with OEM partners.
  • Experience mentoring others and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
