Flight Software Engineering Manager (Aerospace)

Location: Irvine, California, United States; onsite professional office and manufacturing environment

Salary: $150,000–$210,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Lead and oversee flight software engineers designing and developing spacecraft flight software applications.
• Plan schedules, resources, work breakdowns, and engineering support for programs, proposals, and business activities.
• Represent the engineering team in program meetings and bi-weekly sprint planning.
• Act as a lead program software engineer when needed and contribute to code reviews.
• Manage direct reports, including hiring, performance reviews, team meetings, technical mentorship, and professional development.
• Prepare weekly presentations, reports, summaries, and status updates for upper management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace, or an equivalent field.
• At least 8 years of direct industry experience developing embedded software in aerospace, space, or a similar sector.
• At least 3 years of experience managing engineering teams working on embedded software in aerospace, space, or a similar sector.
• Experience developing software in C/C++, deploying and testing it on target environments, and delivering products to market.
• Leadership, mentorship, critical thinking, decision-making, communication, and presentation skills.
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance are required.

Nice to have

• MS or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering with an embedded focus.
• Experience developing on Linux and familiarity with Zynq 7000 series, microprocessors, or FPGA technology.
• Experience using hardware testing equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
