Engineering Manager, Ground Software (Aerospace)

Location: Onsite near Denver, CO or Long Beach, CA, United States

Base salary: $175,000–$300,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Build, lead, and develop a cross-functional squad of front-end, back-end, and full-stack engineers owning a Mosaic product area.
• Own delivery, quality, team health, sprint rituals, one-to-ones, feedback, and engineering career development.
• Drive the technical roadmap and determine which capabilities belong in the product or shared platform layer.
• Partner with the Product Owner and coordinate shared APIs, components, and platform work across Ground Software squads.
• Champion testing, observability, internal tooling, technical debt reduction, and scalable engineering processes.
• Lead production incident response and blameless post-mortems while shaping product-aligned squad practices.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience and 4+ years building and leading teams shipping production software.
• Hands-on depth in Elixir/OTP, Erlang, Go, or JVM back-end systems, or React/TypeScript front-end systems, with working knowledge of the other side of the stack.
• Experience hiring and developing high-performing engineers and balancing technical contribution with people leadership.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems integration, including gRPC, REST, WebSockets, and API contract design.
• Experience establishing engineering processes covering sprints, code reviews, testing, and incident response.
• Eligible for DoD Secret or TS/SCI clearance and compliant with U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline.
• Direct experience with Elixir/OTP and Phoenix or React/TypeScript at scale.
• Experience with organizational transitions, aerospace or defense systems, classified environments, or mission-critical software.
• Experience with real-time data, telemetry, command and control, or visualization technologies such as Three.js and WebGL.
• Active U.S. security clearance at any level.
