Senior Opto-Mech Engineer (Additive Manufacturing)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; 4–5 days expected in office, with flexible work from home during different project phases

Salary: $137,600–$206,400 per year, with a midpoint target of $172,000

What you will do

• Design, build, test, and maintain opto-mechanical assemblies and optical equipment.
• Lead and support new product introduction, product variations, feature development, and adaptation for long-term production.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, planning, production, and field service teams.
• Perform tolerance, thermal, stress, fatigue, lifetime, manufacturability, failure-mode, and cost analyses.
• Specify system requirements, troubleshoot assembly and field issues, and interface with vendors on technical problems.
• Create and maintain drawings, engineering change orders, and other technical documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience developing opto-mechanical designs and subsystems.
• Strong mechanical engineering background with CAD fluency and proficiency in SolidWorks or similar software.
• Understanding of dimensioning and tolerancing, GD&T, DFMEA, statistical process control, and product quality metrics.
• Experience developing specifications for optical, opto-mechanical, or optoelectronic assemblies.
• Knowledge of precision optical and mechanical alignment tools and techniques; portfolio required with application.

Nice to have

• Experience developing optical alignment and metrology systems and processes.
• Scripting and UI development for automated alignment tools involving motion control, sensors, or machine vision.
• Proficiency in MATLAB, LabVIEW, or Python.
• Production-environment experience and comfort working with technicians on the manufacturing floor and in the lab.
