What you will do

  • Perform structural and mechanical analyses for opto-mechanical, thermal-mechanical, fluid-structure interaction, and support-structure hardware.
  • Apply hand calculations and finite element simulations to support design, manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
  • Validate finite element models using internal and external data and prepare concise, traceable analysis documentation.
  • Review analysis reports, provide feedback, and help establish modeling, margin, and documentation best practices.
  • Support prototype builds and test operations by troubleshooting structural issues, investigating root causes, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Guide design engineers and mentor junior analysts.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field.
  • 8+ years of structural or mechanical analysis experience supporting engineered hardware.
  • Experience with commercial FEA tools such as Altair, ANSYS, Abaqus, or Nastran, including model verification and validation.
  • Knowledge of load paths, stress analysis, bolted joints, weldments, frames, mounts, and pressure-containing components.
  • Experience with static and dynamic FEM simulations, classical mechanics of materials, and structural sizing methods.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee or asylee.

Nice to have

  • M.S. degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent advanced experience.
  • Experience with test campaigns, instrumentation, strain gauging, and analysis-to-test correlation.
  • Proficiency with Altair OptiStruct and Radioss, nonlinear materials, vibration, fatigue, creep, high temperatures, or ceramic materials.
  • Experience applying ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code requirements.
  • Scripting experience with Python, MATLAB, or VBA, plus CAD/PLM experience with NX and Teamcenter.
  • Experience developing and validating multiphysics simulations.
