Senior Civil Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: 100% onsite at hirify.global's headquarters in El Segundo, California, United States; extended hours and weekends may be required.

Salary: $133.5K–$184.8K, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own concrete structures including spent fuel dry cask storage systems, facility foundations, and precast elements for manufacturing and site operations.
• Conduct trade studies and develop designs for static, thermal, and seismic loading requirements.
• Perform reinforced and precast concrete, static strength, durability, and seismic analyses using hand calculations and finite element tools.
• Develop construction, fabrication, and test plans for precast and cast-in-place concrete elements.
• Manage bills of materials, suppliers, fabricators, and subassembly or structure design, fabrication, and test schedules.
• Own FMEA risk analysis and communicate requirements and technical feedback across engineering functions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience designing concrete or reinforced concrete structures.
• 4+ years of experience performing structural analysis using hand calculations and finite element tools such as Abaqus, Ansys, SAP2000, or similar.
• Willingness to work 100% onsite at El Segundo headquarters and work extended hours or weekends as necessary.
• Ability to work with interdisciplinary engineering teams and communicate clearly in written and oral formats.

Nice to have

• Active PE license.
• Experience with ACI 318 or similar reinforced concrete design codes and precast concrete handling, transport, and erection.
• Experience with dry cask or spent nuclear fuel storage, nuclear or critical-facility structural design, and seismic qualification of concrete structures.
• Experience designing hardware or structures that were fabricated, deployed, and iteratively improved, including thermal expansion and thermal gradient analysis.
• Experience with GD&T, construction tolerancing, hand calculations, higher-fidelity finite element analysis, and text-based software development tools.
• Ability to derive free-body diagrams for unfamiliar systems, strong organization, and effective written and oral communication.
