Staff FPGA Design Engineer (FPGA)

Location: Irvine, California, United States; onsite office and manufacturing environment

Salary: $170,000–$220,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Own FPGA RTL development from architecture definition through verification, integration, qualification, and flight readiness.
• Define FPGA architectures and requirements with systems, hardware, and embedded software teams.
• Develop RTL in SystemVerilog or VHDL for Microchip PolarFire, AMD Zynq UltraScale+, and Versal platforms.
• Perform simulation, test-bench development, timing closure, resource analysis, hardware validation, and DVT.
• Lead design reviews, maintain requirements traceability, and document FPGA operation and integration.
• Support board and system bring-up, avionics and flight testing, technical decisions, and mentoring of junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
• 8+ years of FPGA RTL architecture, development, and verification experience.
• Strong proficiency in SystemVerilog or VHDL and advanced verification methodologies.
• Experience with PolarFire, AMD Zynq/UltraScale+/Versal, Vivado, and ModelSim or QuestaSim.
• Experience with high-speed buses and interfaces including AXI, PCIe, DDR4/DDR5, JESD204B/C, 100Gb Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART, CAN FD, and LVDS.
• U.S. citizenship or qualifying U.S. status is required, with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience developing high-speed NAND flash controllers with ECC, bad-block management, DMA, timing optimization, and high-throughput data paths.
• Experience with Git, Python, Tcl, Bash, Linux, and C/C++.
• Experience designing for space environments, including radiation effects and mitigation.
