TL;DR
Lead FPGA Engineer (Space): Leading FPGA RTL architecture, development, verification, and testing for planetary rover avionics with an accent on flight-ready digital computing systems, HW/SW interfaces, and team leadership. Focus on designing reliable FPGA systems for space environments, analyzing radiation impacts, and validating hardware through simulations, timing analysis, and system-level test campaigns.

Location: Hybrid role based in the Hawthorne, California office, United States

Salary: $183,000–$230,000 per year

What you will do

  • Lead the FPGA Engineering group and oversee delivery of FPGA RTL designs and verification.
  • Define vehicle FPGA architectures, engineering standards, development practices, tools, and processes.
  • Develop digital computing architectures and HW/SW interfaces between FPGA fabric logic and processing subsystems.
  • Develop unit-level RTL from initial design through flight deployment for Microsemi, Xilinx, and other FPGA or SoC devices.
  • Perform simulations, test-bench development, timing analysis, hardware testing, and unit- and system-level test campaigns.
  • Lead design reviews, maintain requirements traceability, and document FPGA operation and interfaces.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • 10+ years of experience in FPGA RTL architecture, development, verification, deployment, and maintenance.
  • 2+ years of experience leading teams with direct reports.
  • Strong Verilog or VHDL skills and proficiency in at least one scripting language, such as TCL, shell, or Python.
  • Experience with verification techniques, timing and stability analysis, PCB designs, schematics, embedded software, AXI4-family protocols, and interfaces including DDR4, SPI, I2C, and UART.
  • Experience designing for space environments, including radiation impacts and mitigations.
