Staff FPGA Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Hybrid role based in the Hawthorne, California office

Salary: $170,000–$226,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead FPGA RTL development from clean-sheet architecture and requirements definition through qualification and flight readiness.
• Define FPGA logical architecture and hardware/software interfaces with electrical, hardware, embedded software, and other engineering teams.
• Develop FPGA RTL for Microsemi, Xilinx, or similar devices using SystemVerilog or VHDL.
• Perform simulations, test-bench development, timing closure, resource and stability analysis, hardware validation, and system integration testing.
• Lead design reviews, maintain requirement traceability, and document FPGA operation and integration.
• Support hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, and system-level and flight test activities, including radiation mitigation and long-duration reliability considerations.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience in FPGA RTL architecture, development, verification, deployment, and lifecycle support.
• Strong proficiency in SystemVerilog or VHDL and proficiency in TCL, shell, or Python.
• Experience with advanced verification methodologies, timing analysis, stability analysis, and hardware testing.
• Ability to interpret PCB schematics and understand hardware-level constraints, embedded software integration, and hardware/software boundary definition.
• Proficiency with AXI4-family protocols and common interfaces including SPI, I2C, and UART; ability to lift up to 50 lbs for laboratory hardware activities.
