TL;DR
FPGA System Design Engineer (FPGA/DSP): Designing, implementing, and optimizing FPGA-based signal processing and embedded computing solutions for aerospace and defense customers with an accent on RTL, DSP, embedded processors, and AI inference. Focus on benchmarking system performance, optimizing throughput, latency, power, and resource utilization, and debugging complex hardware/software systems.

Location: San Jose, California, United States

Salary: $118.9K–$172.2K USD per year for the Bay Area California region

What you will do

  • Architect, implement, optimize, and benchmark FPGA-based DSP and embedded computing solutions.
  • Develop FPGA solutions using RTL, DSP Builder, and embedded processor technologies for aerospace and defense applications.
  • Deploy and optimize DSP, communications, AI, and signal processing algorithms on hirify.global FPGA devices with strategic customers.
  • Create benchmarks, proof-of-concept demonstrations, reference designs, system solutions, technical documentation, application notes, and training materials.
  • Analyze and optimize throughput, latency, power consumption, and FPGA resource utilization.
  • Support architecture reviews, debugging, performance tuning, customer enablement, and collaboration with FPGA software and tools teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of FPGA design and algorithm implementation experience.
  • 2+ years of software development experience with C/C++ and at least 1 year of FPGA development with Verilog or VHDL.
  • Strong understanding of digital logic design, FPGA development methodologies, and complex hardware/software system debugging and validation.
  • Must be eligible for required U.S. export authorizations and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, collaboration, presentation, and customer-facing skills.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, CUDA, Quartus Prime, ModelSim or Questa, RTOS, FPGA SoCs, embedded processors, and heterogeneous computing architectures.
  • Background in DSP, signal and image processing, wireless and communication systems, AI and deep learning, high-speed ADC/DAC architectures, RF, or software-defined radio systems.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
