Mechanisms Technician (Aerospace): Building, aligning, and verifying solar array mechanical systems and deployment mechanisms for satellite buses with an accent on precision assembly, mechanical fastening, bonding, and dimensional inspection. Location: Los Angeles, United States; onsite work at the Playa Vista office. U.S. Person status is required because the role involves export-controlled data.
Salary: $31–$46 per hour, excluding benefits.

What you will do
- Assemble and integrate solar array structural subassemblies, including pantograph mechanisms, hinges, deployment arms, and panel frames.
- Install and torque mechanical fasteners using calibrated tools, maintain torque records, and perform precision alignment with calipers, micrometers, and indicators.
- Execute bonding and adhesive operations according to engineering procedures.
- Support mechanism deployment testing, including stroke verification and hinge articulation checks.
- Maintain cleanroom and FOD prevention protocols and document assembly activities, non-conformances, and rework.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers on fit, clearance, assembly, procedure, and continuous-improvement issues.
Requirements
- U.S. Person status required for export-controlled work.
- 3+ years of precision mechanical assembly experience in aerospace, defense, or high-tech manufacturing.
- Experience with mechanical fastening, torque procedures, precision measurement tools, articulating mechanisms, linkages, or deployment systems.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T callouts.
- Cleanroom and FOD prevention experience or working knowledge.
- Strong manual dexterity, computer skills, communication skills, and ability to collaborate with engineers and technicians.
Nice to have
- Spacecraft solar array or deployable structure assembly experience.
- Familiarity with pantograph, scissor, or accordion-style deployment mechanisms.
- Solar array or photovoltaic manufacturing experience.
- Familiarity with NASA-STD-5020 workmanship standards.
