Senior Robotics Application Engineer

Location: Munich, Germany; on-site. Willingness and ability to travel approximately 40% across Europe is required.

What you will do

• Own POP, POC, and Robotics as a Service engagements from partner requirements and solution design through system bring-up, validation, and final technical reporting.
• Decompose system-level requirements into testable specifications for internal engineering and partner technical teams.
• Design and operate hardware-in-the-loop test setups, fault-injection tests, negative-path tests, and FMEAs for system-level verification.
• Lead root-cause analysis of deployment issues across hardware, firmware, and software.
• Maintain the field feedback loop, translating partner issues into prioritized product improvements for HQ Engineering.
• Act as the European functional safety authority, collaborate on escalated systems issues, support commercial milestones, and mentor Junior Application Engineers.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience in robotics software engineering, systems integration, automation, or field application engineering, including real-world robotic deployments.
• Proven experience conducting root-cause analysis across hardware, firmware, and software.
• Hands-on experience with ISO 26262 or IEC 61508 is required; European functional safety and EU regulatory compliance are central to the role.
• Experience with sensor integration and calibration, industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT or CAN, and Python for test automation, data analysis, and tooling.
• English fluency and German at working level minimum are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with robot policy training, model adaptation, teleoperation, or remote robot management workflows.
• Background in client-facing robotics OEM, systems integrator, or corporate automation roles.
• CAD, 3D printing, precision machining, and mechanical integration experience.
• ROS/ROS2, real-time operating systems, embedded Linux, OPC UA, MATLAB/Simulink, or requirements management tooling experience.
• Experience with CE marking and EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230.
