Senior Software Engineer, Back-End (Payments)

Location: US - Remote. Candidates within 1-hour commuting distance of the office may be expected to work onsite most of the time. Remote candidates may be asked to participate in an onsite interview during the final stages. U.S. work authorization is required; e-Verify is used to validate eligibility to work legally in the United States.

Salary: $140,971–$228,870 per year, with potential eligibility for bonuses, commissions, or other compensation.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain integrations with Stripe, PayPal, and other payment gateways across initiation, settlement, refunds, and reconciliation.
• Build C#/.NET payment services and APIs alongside customer-facing checkout and payment management experiences using React, Svelte, and TypeScript.
• Apply tokenization, idempotency, retries, audit controls, and PCI-DSS practices to secure and resilient payment processing.
• Design and operate distributed, event-driven services on AWS and Kubernetes with metrics, tracing, alerting, and incident-response capabilities.
• Use AI-assisted development tools across planning, coding, review, debugging, and delivery.
• Partner with product, design, Payments, Marketplace, Grading, Vault, and platform teams to deliver payment capabilities across the ecosystem.

Requirements

• 6+ years of software engineering experience, including ideally 2+ years as a Senior IC or equivalent technical leadership level.
• Deep backend expertise in C#/.NET, complex APIs, asynchronous patterns, and data consistency in distributed systems.
• Experience with React, Svelte, TypeScript, relational databases such as PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB.
• Production experience with payment gateways, idempotency, webhook reliability, tokenization, and PCI compliance.
• Experience designing and operating microservices and Kafka-based event-driven architectures on Kubernetes and AWS.
• Strong observability, security, communication, troubleshooting, ownership, and Agile/Scrum skills.
