Principal Software Development Engineer, Core Transfer Experience (Fintech)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States; hybrid work with onsite attendance Tuesday through Thursday each week

Starting base salary: $240,000–$300,000 annually, plus equity and other compensation components.

What you will do

• Set the multi-year technical vision and strategy for the Core Transfer Experience domain across core transfer flows, conversational and agentic surfaces, and regional experiences.
• Lead the modernization and re-architecture of high-traffic money transfer systems, including service boundaries, migration paths, and architectural decision records.
• Establish reliability, latency, quality, observability, SLO, and error-budget standards for customer-facing systems.
• Create architectural foundations for conversational, agentic, and other AI-native capabilities while maintaining experimentation speed, trust, and compliance.
• Mentor senior and staff engineers, contribute code and system analysis, and resolve cross-domain problems with payments, disbursements, risk, and platform teams.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including large-scale customer-facing distributed systems.
• Expertise in backend service architecture, APIs, event-driven systems, and data models, with experience in mobile using React Native or native technologies and/or web experiences.
• Experience leading modernization or re-architecture of high-traffic production systems through incremental migration and strangler patterns.
• Experience setting technical strategy across multiple teams, influencing roadmaps, and driving organization-wide decisions.
• Experience owning SLOs and operating systems where downtime has direct customer and business impact.
• Ability to work onsite in Seattle Tuesday through Thursday under the current hybrid-work expectations.
