Senior Backend Engineer (Data)

Location: Remote in Canada (CAN-ON)

Salary: $116,000–$140,000 CAD per year

What you will do

• Own and optimize a multi-tenant reporting architecture supporting more than 3,000 tenants and millions of processed records.
• Design and execute the migration of legacy MSSQL/SSRS reporting systems to NodeJS, Aurora MySQL, and AWS infrastructure.
• Build and scale ETL processes, data replication workflows, and high-volume synchronization engines using batch processing and parallel execution.
• Improve database performance through indexing, denormalization, rollup tables, and other optimization strategies.
• Design scalable REST APIs for SaaS reporting features and collaborate with Product and Frontend Engineering on data visualizations.
• Contribute to code reviews, automated integration and unit tests, reliable backend code, and accurate data models.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience focused on database architecture, data processing, ETL, and reporting systems.
• Advanced hands-on experience with MySQL, complex SQL, modern ORMs such as Sequelize, and optimized raw SQL.
• Strong proficiency with NodeJS, JavaScript ES6+, Express or Fastify, and asynchronous programming.
• Experience with AWS services including Aurora Serverless, DynamoDB, Lambda, and SQS.
• Direct experience executing database migrations or modernizing legacy systems, with strong ownership of data integrity and code reliability.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and a user-first approach.

Nice to have

• Experience with MSSQL, SSRS, or PowerShell.
• Experience with QuickSight, Redshift, or similar reporting technologies.
