CNC/EDM Machinist

Location: Benson, North Carolina; the role begins at Johnston Community College's Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Four Oaks and is expected to move to Benson after the new facility is completed. Regular onsite presence on the production floor is required. Must be a U.S. Person due to access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.

Manufactures American rare-earth permanent magnets for defense, aerospace, automotive, and other critical industries.

What you will do

• Operate and maintain CNC equipment, including wire EDMs, grinders, mills, lathes, wire saws, and lasers.
• Process test samples and parts to internal and external specifications.
• Create, document, and refine processing parameters for different materials.
• Perform first-article and test inspections using analog and digital measurement tools.
• Design custom workholding solutions and establish SOPs for workholding and equipment operation.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians on scheduling and processing plans while maintaining equipment, spare parts, consumables, and workplace safety.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience with CAD and CAM software.
• Familiarity with G and M code.
• Ability to read and generate technical drawings.
• Familiarity with analog and digital inspection and measurement tools.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• U.S. Person status required for access to export-controlled information or facilities.

Nice to have

• Experience creating custom G-code post-processors.
• Experience with multiaxis grinding, die and toolmaking, or automated part loading.
• Experience with laser cutters, waterjets, wire and sinker EDMs, and diamond wire saws.
