TL;DR
Lead Avionics Engineer (Spacecraft Electronics): Developing and operating avionics systems for next-generation space vehicles with an accent on custom circuit boards, high-reliability electronics, and end-to-end hardware development. Focus on leading electrical and mechanical engineers, designing qualification and test campaigns, and solving reliability, manufacturability, and mission-integration challenges.

Location: Onsite in Redondo Beach, United States. Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain an export license under ITAR/EAR regulations.

Salary: $145,000–$175,000 per year, plus potential stock options and benefits.

What you will do

  • Drive avionics program execution, schedules, system trades, requirements tracking, and risk mitigation.
  • Support spacecraft electronics from concept and architecture through design, production, integration, and flight.
  • Lead electrical and mechanical engineers responsible for circuit-board design, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Develop qualification and test campaigns to verify avionics designs against mission requirements.
  • Partner with mission management, firmware, software, mechanical, manufacturing, and test teams.
  • Improve system efficiency, manufacturability, reliability, and technical standards while mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience designing electronics for rockets, spacecraft, or other vehicles.
  • Experience with component selection, analysis, simulation, schematics, and PCB layout.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, power management, microcontrollers, and interfaces such as SPI, Ethernet, and RS-422.
  • Hands-on board-level electronics troubleshooting experience.
  • 1+ year of experience leading a team or technical project.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience developing spacecraft or rocket avionics hardware and owning project schedules.
  • Knowledge of reliability, radiation, EMC, and related spacecraft avionics considerations.
  • Experience in a startup or fast-paced agile development environment.
