TL;DR
Engineer II, Nuclear (Reactor Design and Analysis): Designing, developing, and analyzing nuclear reactors and facilities with an accent on reactor core design, radiation shielding, nuclear fuel, and multiphysics analysis. Focus on executing nuclear engineering assignments, coordinating design teams and suppliers, leading technical reviews, and improving designs for construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance.

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States; hybrid schedule with 4 days in the office and 1 day remote. Standard hours are 8:00am–5:00pm ET, Monday–Friday. Travel is approximately 10% as needed.

Salary: $105,000–$135,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Perform engineering design, analysis, and evaluation for nuclear reactor or facility projects.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams, partners, suppliers, contractors, and other disciplines to support design closure and assurance.
  • Plan and organize detailed phases of engineering work and provide technical oversight to internal or external design teams.
  • Assess customer needs and capture requirements and functions related to nuclear engineering.
  • Recommend system design improvements covering assembly, transportation, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and decommissioning.
  • Lead internal and customer-facing nuclear design reviews and presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Typically three years of engineering experience; a relevant master’s or Ph.D. may substitute for part or all of the experience requirement.
  • Technical expertise in one or more areas including reactor core design, radiation shielding, nuclear fuel analysis, criticality safety, reactor multiphysics, nuclear materials and chemistry, or nuclear analysis software validation.
  • Ability to execute nuclear engineering assignments using specifications, interface control documents, and engineering plans.
