What you will do

  • Develop nuclear criticality safety evaluations for Natrium fuel fabrication, fresh fuel receipt, storage, handling, inspection, and transportation.
  • Perform criticality safety calculations using Monte Carlo neutron transport tools such as SCALE/KENO and MCNP.
  • Establish engineered and administrative controls for normal, abnormal, and credible accident conditions.
  • Develop Criticality Safety Evaluations, Criticality Safety Limits, technical reports, regulatory responses, and supporting documentation.
  • Support facility and process design reviews, engineering change evaluations, licensing activities, operating procedures, training materials, and readiness reviews.
  • Coordinate with fuel vendors and transportation organizations and participate in hazard analyses, audits, and technical assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in nuclear criticality safety, reactor physics, fuel cycle engineering, or a related nuclear engineering field.
  • Experience performing criticality safety analyses with Monte Carlo neutron transport methods, including knowledge of nuclear cross-section libraries and uncertainty methodologies.
  • Knowledge of NRC regulations applicable to criticality safety and fuel handling, plus experience preparing technical reports and engineering calculations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently, and ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Applicants are subject to U.S. Government export-control review; foreign nationals may require export authorization.

Nice to have

  • Experience with advanced reactors, sodium-cooled fast reactors, fuel cycle facilities, HALEU fuel systems, or fast-spectrum criticality methodology.
  • Proficiency with SCALE, MCNP, Serpent, or comparable neutron transport software.
  • Familiarity with ANSI/ANS-8, NQA-1, QL-1, DOE, and NRC standards and regulations.
  • Experience with nuclear industry manufacturing and operations and a strong understanding of nuclear safety culture.
